Product Usage
Plasticizer of thermosetting resin, as a raw material used in organic synthesis, preparation of nail polish, dyes, fluorescent pigments and coatings. Used for manufacturing saccharin, plasticizers, adhesives, pesticides, pharmaceuticals and other products.


O-Toluene Sulfonamide (OTSA)

O-Toluenesulfonamide is a methylated sulfonamide and a major impurity if Saccharin. Studies suggest that o-Toluenesulfonamide has potential mutagenic activity.


Storage

Keep in a cool, dry, dark location in a tightly sealed container or cylinder. Keep away from incompatible materials, ignition sources and untrained individuals. Secure and label area. Protect containers/cylinders from physical damage.


Chemical properties:

Colorless and flammable crystal, octahedral crystal in ethanol and prismatic crystal in water. Slightly soluble in water and ether, soluble in ethanol.


Production method

Reacting o-toluenesulfonyl chloride with ammonia and 60 ℃ for 2h, ammoniating to produce o-toluenesulfonamide. The reactant is cooled and filtered to obtain the crude product, which is then decolorized by activated carbon and refined by acid and alkali.


Precautions for operation:

No open flames.

Operators should receive special training and strictly abide by the operating procedures.

Operation and disposal should be carried out in places with local ventilation or comprehensive ventilation facilities.

Avoid contact with eyes and skin, and avoid inhalation of steam.

Keep away from kindling and heat sources. Smoking is strictly prohibited in the workplace.

Use explosion-proof ventilation system and equipment.

If Canning is required, the flow rate should be controlled, and there should be a grounding device to prevent the accumulation of static electricity.
